What Age should I start my child in Martial Arts?
We start children as early as 3 years old.  We have a special program called 'ToT Kwon Do'.  Mr. Wilkinson started ToT Kwon Do in 2001 in Plano, TX.  He has been specializing in working with this age group since 1999.  The curriculum is set up to train young children on the beginning concepts of martial arts.  Concepts like:  Confidence (through our work and reward system of rank), Goal Setting (earning stripes on the belt is short term goals, earning new belts is intermediate goals and getting in the 'big kids' class is the long term goal), Self Control (keeping your hands to yourself AND controlling your temper), Courtesy (being nice), Honesty (telling what really happened), Responsiblity (doing what you are supposed to do without being told) and Discipline (a specific way to do things).

The class is broken down into three parts:  Work, Talk and Play.
-Work - is actually working on movements or concepts that help the student earn a stripe, belt or game (at the end of class)
- Talk - is where we sit down with the students and talk about the life skills listed above.  We explain the life skills on a level that they can understand.
- Play - IF their behavior and work were acceptable, we will play a fun, high energy game that keeps them coming back for more!

Because we have set up the curriculum based on how a  'ToT' thinks an behaves, we feel that ToT Kwon Do is a perfect fit for ages 3-6.  They even have their own belt system!

We do feel that ages 3-6 are too young to train for black belt.  ToT Kwon Do establishes a solid work ethic and character traits that help the student excel at other sports and eventually earn a black belt.
